About Us

We Are D51

Vision: Engage, equip, and empower each and every student, each and every day.

Mission: D51 engages our community, families, and staff to deliver individualized, collaborative, and challenging educational experiences to prepare each and every student for their brightest future.

Mesa County Valley School District 51 is the largest school district on the Western Slope of Colorado and the 15th largest school district in the state. Our boundaries stretch from the Utah border to Palisade, from the Bookcliff Mountain Range down to Whitewater and Gateway.

Committed to academic excellence, District 51 provides a wide range of educational programs, extracurricular activities, and support services to meet the unique needs of each student. Each day, nearly 2,800 employees serve 21,000 students in 46 of our schools & programs. Our dedicated team of highly qualified teachers and staff is committed to creating a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages personal growth and success.

Equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary for their future endeavors is a key priority for us. We understand that the world is rapidly changing, and the skills required for success are evolving accordingly. Therefore, we constantly adapt our curriculum and teaching methodologies to ensure students are equipped with the tools they need to excel when they leave our D51 community. From innovative technology integration to project-based learning initiatives, we strive to provide a well-rounded education that prepares students for the challenges and opportunities they will encounter.

We firmly believe that families should have a voice and an active role in shaping their child's educational journey. We are committed to providing our families with options. Options for the education style their child will thrive in. Options at the school in which their child attends. Options with the programs in which their child engages. We value communication, collaboration, and partnerships between families and our district. By working together, we can create an environment where students thrive and achieve their full potential.
