Weekly Superintendent Update, 2-12

Weekly Superintendent Update, February 12
Posted on 02/12/2021

Dear District 51 Staff and Families:

As a reminder, you can find current information about COVID-19 cases and quarantines in our schools on our D51 Data Dashboard. The information is updated on each student contact day. We have also added a new section to the bottom of the dashboard to track the amount of vaccines that we have been able to offer to staff. Please keep in mind that the numbers reflected on this graph only reflect the amount of vaccines that have been offered to staff, and not the amount of staff who have received it, as the vaccine is entirely voluntary.

Vaccinations

I am happy to announce that we have been able to accelerate our COVID-19 vaccination process and invited almost all of our employees to register for vaccination appointments! Registered nurses and health assistants began getting vaccinated in January, and teachers and other school building staff began getting their first doses of vaccine on Monday. We are now moving on to offering vaccination appointments to administrative building staff. The only groups among our 3,500 eligible staff left to receive registration links are coaches and student teachers, to whom we hope to offer vaccination appointments soon.

Thank you to Mesa County Public Health, St. Mary's Hospital, and Community Hospital for being such amazing partners in this giant undertaking and for moving so quickly to vaccinate our employees to keep our schools open and healthy.

Preschool Applications

Applications are now available for 2021-22 D51 Preschool spots! You can pick up an application and ASQ developmental screener at the Hawthorne Building at 410 Hill Ave., or request them by mail or email at this link. Preschool spots are prioritized for students with special needs or who meet at-risk factors (at least three for three-year-olds and at least one at-risk factor for four-year-olds). School of Choice, Kindergarten Roundup

We know many of you are ready to plan for next year and are thinking about the School of Choice application process, as well as Kindergarten Roundup. The School of Choice window will open at the beginning of March, with the exact date to be announced after the School Board makes a decision on proposed attendance boundary changes, which will likely happen at their Feb. 16 meeting. Please continue to check your email and d51schools.org for more information as details are finalized.

As a reminder, all schools and district offices will be closed on Monday, February 15, in honor of Presidents Day. We’ll see you on Tuesday!

Sincerely,

Diana
