Fruita 8/9 students collect 6,000 socks for those in need

The Service Learning class at Fruita 8/9 School set out this fall to collect some socks for people in need.

They collected quite a few – 6,000, to be exact.

The donation pile is so overflowing that local shelters can’t use them all, so the Service Learning class is shipping them to other towns as well. After donating hundreds of socks for men, women, and children to Mesa County shelters, the class is sending 100-200 pairs of socks at a time to shelters all across the Western Slope.

The class’ collection efforts paid off quickly – the group collected all of its donations within three days.
