Grand Junction, CO On Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, Mt. Garfield Middle School will honor local First Responders, veterans, and active military service members in commemoration of the 18th anniversary of 9/11. The ceremony will begin at 8 a.m. at the school at 3475 Front St. in Clifton.

As adults, many of us are old enough to have the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, forever imprinted on our memories. However, almost all students currently in elementary, middle, or high school were not yet born when the events of Sept. 11 happened.

The goal of Wednesday’s ceremony is to help students honor an important moment in history when we came together as a nation, show gratitude for those who risked their lives then, and thank those who risk their lives today to protect our freedoms and safety.

Any veteran, active duty service member, or First Responder who would like to participate in the ceremony can contact D51 Learning Model Coach Tara Serve at tara.serve@d51schools.org.
