Dear D51 Families,
At the moment, many of us are more focused on our health than ever, which brings up the important topic of immunizations for your child. As we place a greater emphasis on our health, it’s important to consider how keeping your child up to date on immunizations will protect your child and others from vaccine-preventable diseases.
Colorado law requires that children attending preschool or K through 12 school are up to date on their immunizations. Students can also meet the requirements of the law if they have a signed exemption or they have an in process form on file at the school.
Families, please provide your student’s most up to date immunization record to the school.
- Kindergarteners generally need their “kindergarten shots,” which may include: DTaP, Polio, MMR, and Varicella
- All 6th graders need a Tdap to start 6th grade.
In addition to required vaccines to attend school, meningococcal and HPV vaccines are recommended vaccines for students in 6th grade.
If you have any questions or concerns about vaccines, please contact your primary care provider or Mesa County Public Health.
Please note that there is no approved vaccine for COVID-19 at this time, nor any regulations around it. We will share updated information when the vaccine becomes available.
Where to go for immunizations:
- Your primary care provider’s office. Please call and make an appointment.
- Mesa County Public Health by appointment. 970-248-6900.
- Many local pharmacies provide some immunizations on site.
If cost is a concern, Mesa County Public Health offers programs for low income families or those without health insurance.
