Grand Junction, COGrand Junction High School won its 19th Governor's Cup for highest overall score and got their 20th Class 5A win in a stunning tie-breaker at the State Knowledge Bowl Tournament March 12-13, 2018, at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

GJHS social studies teacher Coady Shawcroft coached students Anij Magill (team captain), Matt Chambers, Amanda Gordon, Parker Stacy, Samantha Gillaspie, Anthony Booth, Noah Terlouw, and Evan Ancell to victory. For the first time ever, one winner from each of the division championship teams will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship if they have been accepted to Colorado State University beginning in Fall 2018.

Three District 51 teams competed in this year’s State Knowledge Bowl. Palisade High School placed fifth in Class 4A and Fruita Monument High School placed seventh in Class 5A.

March has been quite a month for the Tigers – GJHS also won the Colorado State Quiz Bowl Championship for only the second time in the tournament's history on March 3 at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Magill, Gordon, Chambers, and Petra Jouflas competed on the winning Quiz Bowl team.
