Grand Junction, CO - Mesa County Valley School District 51 is happy to announce that all schools in the district will offer summer learning this year!

The district is able to offer what we are calling Summer Extension using federal ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) Fund dollars specifically set aside to help students catch up if they are in need of more time to work on certain subjects. Although D51 schools have been in session all year, some students are still working to catch up from the remote learning of Fourth Quarter last year or need help keeping up after quarantines, absences, or other issues this year. Elementary and middle schools will focus on literacy and math interventions, and high schools will focus on credit recovery.

Summer Extension will take place Monday through Thursday June 2-29. Busing will be provided, with students able to catch buses at hubs spaced throughout the valley. Students will receive a to-go lunch after their four hours of morning programming, as well as a pre-packaged breakfast for the next morning. Mental health support will also be available at select schools.

The district plans to offer Summer Extension programming to up to 3,000 students. If you are interested in Summer Extension for your child because your child is in need of remediation, please contact your child’s principal or contact any member of the D51 Summer Extension Team before May 7. If your child attends a charter school, please check with their administration to see what they are offering.
