Strategic Planning Steering Committee

School District 51 is in the process of creating a Strategic Plan. Updates and the final plan will be posted on this page.

What is a Strategic Plan?
A Strategic Plan is a document that takes input from stakeholders and creates goals for an organization, with measurable ways to track progress made on those goals. The new Strategic Plan will guide D51 decision-making for at least the next three years.

Who is creating the Strategic Plan?
The Strategic Plan Steering Committee, in partnership with the Colorado Education Initiative, is drafting the plan using input gathered from parents, students, staff, and community members at listening sessions that took place in February and March 2020 and September 2021. The final draft will be presented to the D51 Board of Education for their approval in December.

Who serves on the Strategic Plan Steering Committee?
The steering committee is a diverse, 40-50-person team of D51 staff, parents, students, community members, and influential business and government leaders in the Grand Valley.

How will the Strategic Plan be used?
The Strategic Plan will help the district set measurable goals for district improvement and create a Graduate Profile that lists skills a student should have when they graduate from a D51 school in order to be successful in life. These skills will go beyond the graduation requirements of earning credits in math, English, science, and other subjects and look at elements of a student's character and abilities that will contribute to their postsecondary education, career, and life in general.
